What Can I do?

Howard here:

Several have asked what they can do.  The following is a short list which anyone can do.

What to do?  On a simple basis, wear your t-shirts to go shopping and be a walking billboard.  Wear the same to large events, like farmers market, sports events, etc.  More organized…table at the annual county fair, the Saturday farmer’s market and other such events in the area.

Call your city & or county commissioners and see if they will sponsor and promote a ‘Hazelton, PA’ type ordinance.  Speak in front the same groups why they should pass such an ordinance to ’sour the milk’ locally.  Usuallly local govts will give you two minutes on any topic.

Call and make an appointment to see your state rep and state senator.  They usually have office hours when they are not in session.  They will give you 10 minutes of face time.  Prepare well for this and leave them a one sheet summary of the 5 major points you want to make.

Call and make an appointment to see an aide of your local Congressman and US Senators.  This can usually be done quickly, especially after the election in November.  Same protocol as above.  A personal visit is worth 100 phone calls.

Contact Susan Tully (coordinator for state activities) at www.fair.org for other ideas.

More formal…prepare an 18 minute speech and offer it to a local service club like Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, etc.  This idea needs some coaching (a sharp person who believes in open borders can often leave one speechless).  I’d be happy to coach.
