NY Premiere of One Direction: This Is Us

(Photo: Ian Gavan Getty Images for Sony Pictures) Story Highlights One Direction’s concert/documentary ‘This Is Us’ opened Friday There are no mention of girlfriends despite several bandmembers’ high-profile relationships Zayne Malik is engaged to be married and Harry Styles dated pop star Taylor Swift SHARECONNECT 11 TWEET COMMENTEMAILMORE One thing noticeably missing from One Direction’s concert film and documentary This Is Us — the band members’ girlfriends. There are long shots of excited, even crying, fans, screaming for the five members of the right-now boy band — Niall Horan, 19, Zayn Malik, 20, Liam Payne, 19, Harry Styles, 19, and Louis Tomlinson, 21 — in the film that opened Friday. But no girlfriends — either discussed in lengthy interviews with the band members or seen onscreen. It’s surprising since there is plenty of interesting fodder on that topic. Styles dated Taylor Swift, a relationship that inspired Swift to write the hit song “I Knew You Were Trouble.” It’s a song and relationship Swift reminded the world about during her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. Malik recently got engaged to pop singer Perrie Edwards. “And Zayn has been dating his girlfriend for close to a year if not longer,” says online blogger Perez Hilton. “She’s not mentioned at all in the movie. Neither are any of the girlfriends the band members have. Which is odd, considering it’s a documentary-type movie. ” Director Morgan Spurlock said he talked to the band members about their relationships, but didn’t include the discussions in the final cut.

It is believed that another man and woman were treated for burns to their hands after the incident. Liam has been busy recently touring the US with his One Direction bandmates but he’s spent the last few days back in London celebrating his 20th birthday.

It’s not as bad as it sounds. When the Arab Spring protests swept across the Middle East, I found myself trying to consume as much information as possible from a wide variety of sources. I flipped between CNN and MSNBC on television and had a variety of web sites open on my laptop, including a feed of Al Jazeera’s live broadcast. When my son (now 15) asked what I was doing, I had the opportunity to show him the differences between CNN’s reporting viewpoints and those of Al Jazeera. It was a pretty cool teaching moment that was nonexistent when I was his age. But a whole host of new parenting issues come with what seems like daily changes in technology. Technology has produced a new set of concerns for parents including: privacy; sexting; sharing without permission; viral sharing; costs of devices, programs and apps; pedophiles; cyberbullying; peer pressure … it’s a long list. At the same time, many of the new apps, devices and tools coming out offer tremendous learning opportunities for our children. We’ll take time to examine them, offer suggestions on deals, and alert you to scams as well. We will try and tackle it all in this feature. We don’t pretend to have all the answers but we hope we can have an ongoing conversation aimed at managing the wild world that lives at the intersection of parenting and technology.

The Our Moment fragrance has U.K. retail prices of 39 for 100 ml, 29 for 50 ml and 21 for 30 ml. The fragrance will be available in eau de parfum spray, body lotion, rollerball and shower gel, according to Olivann Beauty, which describes the fragrance as smelling like a combination of pink grapefruit, creamy musk, red currants, jasmine petals, white patchouli, fresh freesia, wild berries, and sheer woods. As with any major product launch that involves One Direction, there’s a high probability that the group will do a personal appearance at Harrods or another retailer to promote the Our Moment fragrance. However, no announcement has been made yet. In a December 2012 press release about the fragrance, One Direction’s Niall Horan commented: “As a band, we have been discussing making a fragrance for our fans for quite a while so we’re really excited to finally have this opportunity. We’ve been working away on this and we’re very proud of the way it has turned out. We really can’t wait to hear what our fans think.” One Direction manager, Will Bloomfield of Modest! Management added: “The band is incredibly passionate about this project and has been closely involved in the creation of the scent, the packaging and bottle design, and the name itself.” Olivann Beauty Chairman and CEO Eugene Melnyk stated: “We are thrilled to partner with One Direction, one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. This is a true partnership in both scope of products we will develop together and term. We’ve had global success with our Clean brand and are poised to replicate that success in the fashion and celebrity space.
